The Idea That Almost Sounded Ridiculous
Here's how it started, months earlier, half-joking, over a conversation about what Dottylicious actually is. Not the cake itself, we know the cake. Pistachio kunafa that shatters a little before it gives way to something soft underneath. Orange ganache that tastes like it remembers being fruit. Red velvet with just enough tang to stop it from being sweet for the sake of sweet. We built that reputation one custom order at a time, two bakers who'd been perfecting cake since 2017 finally putting a name, and a spoon, to what we did best.
But the question that kept nagging at me was bigger than flavour: what does a dessert brand have to say to a room full of fashion's most powerful people?
The easy answer was nothing. Different industries, different audiences, different reasons to exist. The interesting answer, the one we eventually bet on, was that fashion and dessert might be solving the exact same human problem from opposite directions.
Fashion is armor. It's how you walk into a room and tell everyone who you are before you've said a word. It's confidence you can put on. And for four days at KLMFW, I watched some of the most talented people in this industry wear that armor beautifully, relentlessly, without a visible crack.
Nobody was asking how they were doing underneath it.

How our Dot Cake Crashed Kuala Lumpur's Biggest Fashion Week
There's a particular kind of quiet that happens backstage at a fashion week. Not silence, the room is never silent, not with steamers hissing and heels clicking and someone always saying five minutes to someone else, but a quiet underneath all of it. The quiet of people holding themselves very carefully together.
I noticed it the first evening of Kuala Lumpur Men's Fashion Week 2026, standing near the edge of the room at M Resort & Hotel while a parade of tailoring passed by that I genuinely didn't expect to see in this city, sharp-shouldered suits with the swagger of 1940s New York, Sicilian workwear reimagined through a very Malaysian lens, heritage weaves stitched into the language of old-world power. This was the second year of the event, built around the theme Godfather, and it lived up to it. Every look on that runway was a small negotiation between identity and authority, tradition and reinvention.
And everywhere I turned, there was someone worth knowing. Designers who'd spent months on a single collection. Editors deciding, in real time, what would matter to Malaysian menswear next season. Buyers, stylists, tastemakers, the kind of people whose opinions move rooms. It was, without exaggeration, one of the more concentrated doses of fashion power I've stood in the middle of.
I wasn't there to show a collection. I was there with something much smaller and, frankly, much stickier: a tray of Dottylicious dot cakes.

What's Next
We're still buzzing from it, honestly. The conversations we had over those four days have already turned into requests, corporate gifting for a couple of the brands we met, custom flavour builds for an upcoming event, and more than a few people who just wanted to know how to order regularly (Klang Valley delivery, starting from RM20, in case you're one of them).
But more than the orders, KLMFW gave us a clearer sense of what Dottylicious actually is when it's not just about the cake. We make something small and specific and, if we've done our job right, a little bit like a held breath finally let out. Fashion week reminded us that the world doesn't need more places to perform. It needs a few more places to stop.
One spoon is never enough. Neither, it turns out, was one fashion week.
